Did you know that Infantry Troops were used to build roads? At Fort Verde, the camp served as a staging base for military operations in the surrounding countryside, including Infantry troops that built a wagon road west to Fort Whipple near Prescott and east to Fort Apache, this route later came to be called the Crook Road after General George Crook. This program will feature a camp set up by a detail from Fort Verde to do maintenance on the road to Fort Apache.
